Once upon a time, way back in 1985, I was working on my first college research paper for my freshman English class (ahem, that would be an HONORS English class, in case you are interested). Now, listen closely, students, and I will tell you of a time when there was no Internet, no superhighway of information, and no cable television in the dorms. (Because of the graphic nature of these conditions, this post is for mature audiences only.)I was doing my research paper on contemporary Christian music, which was in its beginnings. (This was not a career paper, although at the time, at MTSU, I thought I was going to major in communications. Contemporary Christian radio was almost non-existent then, except for Christian talk radio and a great deal of southern gospel music which--sorry--I can barely stand.) Anyway, I really wanted to interview Amy Gran
t, but I could not figure out how to contact her. (Like I said, there was no way for me, at that time, to be the skillful Internet stalker that I am today!) Instead, I settled for contacting Kathy Troccoli, a young up-n-comer on the Christian music scene at that time. I called her label in Nashville, and they set things up. I remember how cool it was when she called me for the interview! (Well, of course, they weren't going to give me her number! They gave her mine!)As you are setting up interviews and as some of you are already going through the process, I hope that you will really enjoy it. Don't rush through it! It is really something special to get the advice and wisdom from these folks who are doing today what you hope to be doing in the future.
Check what's due Tuesday in the sidebar. This is not hard--this is fun!!!
Think. Live. Write.
I love that!
