Hello Students,
We have a bit of a problem. We have an overwhelming number of people who are pro-dating. From what I learned yesterday, we are not going to have much of a debate if 90% of you are on the same side. Please check out the polls to your right (in the sidebar) and let me know how you feel about the options I am providing for you.
I know that there are some of you who have not read the books yet (ahem! cough, cough--Jo Bo--for one, but I know there are others, as well). So there is always the chance that once you do read the books, you will want to choose the pro-waiting side.
Take the polls (there are two). I hope to see many of you on Saturday!

Hey Mrs. P. I just wanted to let you know that if you need me to be with the "no dating" side that I wouldn't mind it. Even though I'm all for making dating work, I could probably come up with just as many reasons not to date. So whatever you want me to do is fine with me!

Hi Mrs. P! Guess what?? My birthday is this Friday!! I'm sooo excited!! Just wondering here.....is this supposed to be the draft or the final paper? I couldn't remember. Either way, I have to have a cover sheet, right?
AND...when I type "does" and "media" in conjugation with one another, it comes up as a grammatical error. Should I just leave it as? To me, "the media do" doesn't make sense, but if that's the way you think it should be, I'll change it.

Are we going to mix both classes for one big debate or are we have two different debates w/ the two classes?

I checked a couple of different sources, and they agree that media is a plural noun. That means you want to use a plural verb. Go with how your spell check corrects you. It may sound funny to you, but it is still correct. When you are using "media" and trying to figure out the correct verb, substitute the word "they" and see what verb "sounds" right then. For example:
The media are covering the debate tonight. (They are covering the debate tonight.)
The media say that this hurricane will cause great damage. (They say that this hurricane will cause great damage.)
The media do not have good manners. (They do not have good manners.)
Tuesday your draft is due. Cover sheet is optional on the draft.

We'll have two separate debates. The only way to mix the classes would be to use the lunch hour and that wouldn't be fair to all your stomachs. :)

I have a Q, Mrs. P. In class Tuesday, I think you said that commas now count as words. Did I hear you right?
Mrs P, do you want my thesis posted on my draft or not? I'm very curious because I'm to close for comfort on the word count.

I am sorry if I confused you! What I meant was that commas now count as part of your grade. In other words, whether or not you have commas in the right places will be a part of what I am grading on the next paper. On your definition paper, a student's command (or lack) of commas did not affect his/her grade. This paper, it will.
Commas DO NOT count as part of your total word count.
As for the question about your thesis statement: Your thesis statement belongs at the end of the first paragraph. It is part of your draft and final paper and must be there!

I don't really want to switch sides on the debate. My notes are all geared to help me defend my side. But if you really,really need me to switch I will.The Brady Bunch is nice though. And if we can't watch the Brady Bunch, maybe we can have an extra week to go back through the books and make new notes.
Mrs P, you said we'd get extra credit if we didn't use any personal pronouns. Does that mean we can't use them in the title, too?
Mrs. Powell! i got home last night at midnight from my trip and all I was able to get done on my trip was my outline! AHHHHH!!!! Im flippin put here! major stress! I dont know exactly what is expected of me. so if you get this anytime soon please email me and let me know what's goin on and what i need to do before tomorrow.
