AN INTERESTING OBSERVATION

Students,

A quick look at my grade book and this blogsite reveals an interesting truth: The students in the writing class who are the most active participants on this blog (asking questions, posting comments) are also the ones who have the top grades.

Hmmmm. Your thoughts?

Does that mean me and kay lo have the top grades???

LoVizzle,

I am not naming names. I am making observations. :)

And, I am asking students to draw conclusions as to why this is a truth in our class.

In other words, students get higher grades if they visit the blog more often. Got it.

I was about to ask the same question as LoVizzle...maybe that should just be encouraging words to us LoViz. :)

I'd say that the people who visit the blog most have better grades because they get wonderful pointers from Mrs. P. I ask a slew of questions, but having said that, I also get a slew of helpful answers. I also learn other beneficial things from the questions that other students ask. Not to mention, sometimes Mrs. P tells us what we can do for a few extra credit points. That always comes in handy. AND, Mrs. P is also reminding us of what we need to turn in and how to turn it in. That keeps us from having to pay the late fee penalties that come out of our final grade. Maybe this is what Mrs. P is seeing in her observation. We don't just get our grade from our final paper; there's a lot more stuff involved!

Sorry Im here. I do honestly visit the blog more than it seems like, I just dont post a comment. Usually because It either completely slips my mind or I don't really have a thoughtful comment to add. Other than,"Hey Im here", I dont know what to say lol.

What she said.

I think that those who comment on the blog get better grades because commenting on the blog is part of our grade. Right, Mrs.Powell? So if one does not comment on the blog, one's grade drops. I think that, in conjuction with Kay Lo's reasons, is why bloggers get better grades. :)

In school, the Family and Consumer Sciences class is just called "FCS." Can I call it that? And even if you don't want me to abbreviate it in the paper, can I call it that in the outline?

Anonymous said...

I guess this means my grade is just getting by :P

Rebecca Ingram Powell said...

Kay lo,

The first time you write it in your paper (or outline), put "Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS)" and then after you do that, you may simply refer to it as "FCS" throughout.

the works cited sheet is proving to be quite difficult....sigh.

Logan Vaughan said...

What this means, Jo bo, is we'll have to smack Lancaster next season. HARD. I believe they were also the team who beat the MS boys in OT, right? Anyway, GO LADY ROYALS!!!!

Okay so when I printed off my works cited sheet, the URL stuffs was in red and underlined, but it didn't have the "<>" symbals any more. Is that okay? If not, how do I fix it?

Rebecca Ingram Powell said...

Kay lo,

Try this: Go to that URL and right-click on it. Then left-click on "remove hyperlink." See if that works.

No Fro Jo,

I'm assuming that you are talking about your other classes, and not the writing class. After all, everyone enjoys the writing class.

And btw, evaluating (and re-evaluating) one's priorities is a daily task as well as a lifelong journey.

are we needing to bring in all the information that we have printed off from our books and the internet with our works cited sheet?

MRs. Powell,
Any tips on outlining your introduction and conclusion?
I have my other sections outlined fine; I just cant seem to get the introduction or conclusion right.

Logan Vaughan said...

I used my own Q's, No Fro Jo, and Mrs. P okeyed them, so I think you're good too.

But I'm not Mrs P, so idk.

Rebecca Ingram Powell said...

No Fro Jo,

It is fine that you made up your own questions.

Regarding your print-outs and note cards, those are to be turned in with your paper on Judgment Day. Tomorrow just bring your works cited page. However, if you have a question about how to cite one of the works, bring the print-out that is in question and I will help you figure it out.

Logan Vaughan said...

AMEN to graciepoo's question! Please answer her, Mrs p! I kinda need that answer too, if you couldn't tell...

Rebecca Ingram Powell said...

Grace,

Remember that even though this is a research paper, and you are writing it somewhat differently than the papers you did last semester, the introduction will still start broadly and then taper down to the topic of the career you have researched. You may want to start your paper by talking about our celebrity-driven, beauty-conscious culture, and how all that glam is achieved through a team effort. Then taper down to the role of the stylist.

Mrs. P

Rebecca Ingram Powell said...

Okay, Grace and LoViz,

Let me be sure I am answering your question.
For example: (btw, blogger won't let me indent)

I. Intro
A. Our celebrity-driven culture
1. Fashion conscious
2. Beauty-oriented
B. Beauty takes a team effort
1. Setting
2. Photographers
3. Stylist
C. The stylist is essential to the beauty and fashion industry.

Does that help at all?
