SAMPLE OF WORKS CITED PAGE

Students,

Your works cited page is due, to be turned in, on Tuesday, February 24. THESE ARE TO BE TYPEWRITTEN. You will bring me a copy, but you will also keep a copy on your computer to be turned in with your final paper.

Below is a sample works cited page. All you need to do is center the words WORKS CITED (notice that I want you to use all caps) at the top of the page. Then list your resources, following the examples on your handout as a guide. Remember: Resources are divided on the handout into sections for Internet, books, magazines, and interviews. Do not separate them on your works cited page. Get them all together, and then alphabetize them according to the first word.

WORKS CITED

Abdul, Paula. E-mail interview. 04 Mar. 2008.

"Andre Agassi." Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. 28 May 2007, 13:43 UTC. Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. 2 Jun 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Andre_Agassi&oldid=>.

Brady, Marcia. Telephone interview. 07 Dec. 1979.

Califano, Joseph A. “A Weapon in the War on Drugs: Dining In.” Dec. 2007.

Hempel, Jessi. “The MySpace Generation.” 12 December 2005. Business Week. 07 Feb. 2009.

Omartian, Stormie. The Power of a Praying Parent. Eugene: Harvest House, 1997.

Smith, Gary. “Steroids and Baseball: What Do We Do Now?” Sports Illustrated. 28 Mar 2005: 40-41.
Tripp, Paul David. Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens. Phillipsburg: P & R Publishing, 2001.

“The Bermuda Triangle.” 05 December 2007

Torre, Joe. Personal interview. 22 July 2007.

Virginia Education Association. 25 June 2008.

I think I got it Mrs. P!

Okay, now I do have a question. What if I put down some cited information from a source that I end up deciding not to use? Is that okay?

Kay lo,

Your question is confusing to me. Could you please ask it in a different way?

Hmm...okay. So, lets say that I put a website's information on my Cited Page. Then, when I write my final paper, I decide that I don't want to use the information I gathered from that website. The information is still on the Cited Page, but not in my paper. Is that okay?

(hopefully that's less confusing. sorry!)

Kay lo,

Your final works cited page, the one you will turn in with your final paper, should only reflect the resources that you ended up using in your paper.

Okay?

Oh okay. I was just making sure this wasn't the final Cited Sheet because I knew that there was the possibility that I would change my mind on a few things before I have my final paper completed.

I'm quite sure we went over this is class, but I forgot: Two of my books that I will reference were written by editing staffs and not a writer. Do I just say nothing about the author on the works cited page or say something like "editing staff"?

LoVizzle,

I like "Editing Staff." Put that in place of the author's name.

I have an encyclopedia article that has no author listed. Is there a special way to cite encyclopedia articles, or do you just want me to skip the author part for that article?

Lauren,

Skip it for now, but bring in your copy and let me see it.
