Devo Links

Students,

If you are looking for different Bible versions as you work on your devotional this week, check out:

Bible Gateway

and

Crosswalk.com I actually prefer the "classic" Bible study tools on Crosswalk, but this link will take you to their new and improved tools with an option to click on the classic.

I would like to say I protest the word count!! I still haven't finished my personal story, yet I am currently 81 words over the 400 mark. I have no clue how I can work it down 100 words. This is sort of an overview of the last 8 or so years of my life, but all of my info is key!!! I AM SO DEAD.

Hey Mrs. P! I have a question about the devo. What does the outline have to look like? I remember you explaining alittle about it in class, but I don't see it in the paper formatting sheet so I was wondering if we actually needed one to turn in. Do we?

Mrs. Powell....on the WRITING A DEVOTIONAL where the Scriptures are, it says Genesis 25:39-24... i believe its 29-34. i just got a little confused. lol:)

Hello Students!

LoVizzle, you are most welcome. Or, as our friends at Chick-fil-a would say, "My pleasure."

Kay lo, I emailed your mom the assignment this morning. Check with her.

LoV, here's a heads-up on the next several weeks in class: We are going to be writing a Chicken-soup style personal memoir type of story. So keep everything you have written because you may be able to use it in a few weeks.

I am smiling to know that you are challenged by this assignment :) because I think the Lord has something really cool in it for you (and everyone, for that matter). In a devotional, you are really wanting to give a summary of your story, because if you give too many details, then it doesn't have as much global appeal.

A devotional is something that should (1) reflect your personal story but also (2) minimize any trivial details that would get in the way of another person being able to identify with that story. Okay, I'm on a roll here, so I will keep going. Think of it this way: When a person is trying to sell a house, he wants to showcase the selling points that make the home different, but he wants to neutralize things like carpet and paint in order for it to have the most appeal to the most buyers. That's what you're trying to do here with story vs. too many details.

Randi, so true!

EEE, your outline is to be really simple and informal. I just want you to set it up as is listed under the heading "THIS IS HOW I WANT YOU TO DO THIS." Don't stress over the outline, but just make it more of a list. You will need it with your critique for Tuesday.

I still have not gotten my credit for pointing out the mistake I found last Tuesday. I was looking forward to having my 15 minutes of fame on the blog. :P

mrs. powell. i picked the scripture in mark for my devotional. and im having a hard time thinking of one specific story. i know the "overall", "in general", everyday in life stuff. but i just cant think of a certain story. nothing big or long enough to make a devotional out of it anyway. so i still havent done my personal story....ehhh!!!!!! i was wondering if i could do kind of an overall thing. like how that scripture applies to everyday life????? maybe. if not thats ok ill think o somethin.

personal story, transitions, and combining the bible and the story....thats all of our word count right??

Rebecca Ingram Powell said...

Holly,

Yes, that's the word count. Now, regarding your story...

Primarily, the passage in Mark can talk about faith, or it can talk about the storms of life, or it can talk about faith through the storms of life! Get a sheet of paper and brainstorm around those things, or talk to a parent or sibling about things that have happened in recent years. Keep praying! The Lord will show you something! I'll pray, too!

Yes, I was going to write about faith through the storms of life. my problem is thinking of a personal story where i have had something go wrong and then had to have faith to get through it. does the story have ot be about me?, or something ive been through? or can it be about another person?? I am SO struggling!!!! But, as always, God will provide.

Mrs. Powell I think I am going to do my devotional on "The Storm", but I just cannot relate anything thats happened to me to this story. I understand that it is primarily about having faith in God, but unless I lie, then I don't understand how I can give an example of my having faith, or my faith being tested. At one time I was a Christian, but I guess you could say I "lost faith" and now I simply don't believe in anything but my own random existence in this universe. Thats not to say I don't believe in "god", but I cannot believe in Jesus. Anyways I think Im rambling, but I need some advice, from anyone!

Tyler,

I've been at a baseball game that last forever and just got home a little while ago. Why did you wait until MONDAY to ask for help??? Bring what you have to class tomorrow and we'll brainstorm.
