GIVING THANKS

Students,

It would be so nice of you people to send a note of thanks to Dr. Summey for coming to spend time with us yesterday. I would love for you to do this--because it's the RIGHT thing to do! Please write to Dr. Summey to express your gratitude (this does not have to be long--remember, he told you that often it's best to keep it simple!) at this address: william.summey@lifeway.com

Now, an opportunity for extra credit. Here's what you have to do:

  1. Read Dr. Summey's post on the ParentLife blog by clicking here.
  2. Comment on this post. I realize it's directed to parents, but the question that I want you people to answer is, "How do you think your parents are best encouraged?" You may begin your post with, "I'm not a parent, but I know my parents are best encouraged when I..." and fill in the rest. Your post must be at least 35 words long (that includes this intro I just gave you).
  3. PLEASE EDIT YOUR COMMENT FOR YOUR GRAMMAR MISTAKES.
  4. Let me know when they post your comment (use your first name and last initial), and you will receive 5 extra points added to your lowest grade.
  5. If you send a thank you email to Dr. Summey, let me know that as well, and you will also get 5 extra points for that.

Now you have an opportunity for up to 10 extra credit points.

Great, LoVizzle!

I knew you would take me up on this! By the way students, five points may not sound like much, but it can stand in for a blog comment that you didn't post, or help take a little weight off a late fee.

And ten points? My goodness, I know that No Fro Jo can attest to the difference ten bonus points can make!

Just letting you know, Mrs P, that Dr. Summey posted my comment. I noticed one typo, but no one's perfect! Well, at least not all the time!!! LOL JK!

Oh, and I'm just realized I got those two extra credit things done within an hour of you posting the post. That's about 1 point every 10 minutes! That is AWESOME!!!!!!!

Go, LoVizzle!

All right, students--LoVizzle has proven how easy this is!

Well crud LoVizzle! I just looked at that post and you totally said what I was going to say. You beat me. :(

Now I gotta think of something else...

Logan Vaughan said...

What did I say? Which post? And why do I recall no comments from you last week?

Oh I meant on Dr. Summey's post. I was going to say things very similar to what you said. But, I didn't want people to think I was just copying you. I diiiid comment last week. I can't remember which post though. TRUST ME, I commented, and I was on here daily too.

Well Mrs. P, I have a comment on Dr. Summey's post and an email to him in my sent items' box. Do I hear 10 extra credit points singing to me?

Uhm, Mrs. P? I think you forgot to tell us how you wanted us to do our Bible quotes... Are we supposed to put them in any certain way. Do they need endnotes?

And, when I'm reading my paper, and I get to a Bible quote like "43:7," do I say, "fourty-three, seven," or "fourty-three and seven"? Aaaaaaaaaand, what about when I get to something in parentheses? When it's like "Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS)", do I say "Family and Consumer Sciences, or FCS." Just, how am I supposed to say this stuffs?

Now do I need to bring in a clean outline or the critiqued outline? The critiqued one is stapled so it might be harder to turn the pages. So, if you want me to turn in a clean one, I can. On the other hand, I don't have a saved draft. So, I guess I'll have to use the critiqued and stapled draft. Hope that's okay! Just let me know which outline you'd like me to use! :)

Kay lo,

Ten extra points are coming your way! I read yours and Logan's posts, and I was so proud! You are both great writers and your comments should get you some extra credit with your folks, too! ;)

Bible references: We decided to just quote within the paper, listing the reference just as you had it. No problem. JUST LIKE IN YOUR DRAFT. If I did not mark it wrong, then it is right. That goes for your FCS question as well.

Outline: Your outline needs to be your final outline--it should be a clean copy.

Okay, so how am I going to saaaaaay it, like in my oral presentations. How do I let the others know that FCS is in parenthesis? Do I say "or" or "aka" or how do you want me to read it alloud? Like how do I read alloud "43:7." Do I just say "fourty-three, seven" or do I need to say "fourty-three, AND seven." Just wondering how I'm supposed to say it alloud.

Rebecca Ingram Powell said...

Kay lo,

Your questions always keep me on my toes!

Okay, let's start with the Bible reference. You can say, "Forty-three, seven." Or you can say, "Forty-three and seven." It doesn't make any difference to me; I've heard it done both ways. Whatever you decide to do, be consistent. That is, if you end up citing two Bible quotes when you talk, say them the same way both times.

The first time you mention the other, say, "Family and Consumer Sciences, also known as FCS, blah blah blah." Then refer to it as FCS as you journey on through your oral presentation.
